Over the last little while, I’ve been haunted by the ghosts of Thomas Jefferson and a few of his contemporaries. Before you think I am completely insane, I don’t believe the spirit of the past president is actually following me around, helping me to finish illustrations, grocery shop, and entertain small children. I’m sure if his ghost is hanging around somewhere on Earth, it would not want to spend its time on McMillan St.
Instead I feel like an idea of him is following me around. I have this story idea that involves Jefferson, and some vengeful Hessians, that I’ve wanted to write for a while. I’ve sat down to begin it a few times and have it all outlined, but life has been busy, as life always is.
But this month, November, is National Novel Writing Month also known as NaNoWriMo. So I decided to give it a try and I’m going to try to hammer down 50,000ish words by the end of the month. The NaNoWriMo site has a nice word tracker and some friendly pep talks.
I’m 2,000 words in and it feels really nice to get all my imaginings into hard cold black type of the screen. It might turn out terrible, but I figure I won’t know til I try. I’d love a little company if anyone else wants to give it a try.
